Just before the wedding, we took advantage of a bank holiday four day weekend.
We rented a car, and were off on one of our favorite adventures - the road trip!
Dave was very excited about his sports car
And here comes Stonehenge
and Kelly!
We also found the stone circles at Avebury, which is another impressive megalithic monument about an hour from Stonehenge
Can you find Kelly?
After a long day of looking at really old rocks, we aimed towards Bath
Nice try but no Dukes, silly Brits
In Bath, Kelly made a friend, a proper English Gentlemen
We left Bath for the Wookey Hole, that despite the great name, was a bust
We stopped for lunch at Sexeys Arms, which Dave thought was named after his biceps
After lunch we made our way to Tintagel Castle. The Castle is believed to be the birthplace of King Arthur who, as legend has it, was protected from the evil magician Merlin by his magical sword, Excaliber.
Here is Kelly looking into Merlin's Cave. Must have been scary for King A to have Merlin right outside of his stoop.
Over the years, the mainland has been eroded by the elements and Tintagel castle is now only accessible via a narrow bridge and steep steps.
Another interesting factoid: this immense castle appears to have been built on a site that serves no apparent strategic purpose. Could have been some summer home!
